Enter an amount and rate, then choose Calculate.

Amounts are rounded to 2 decimal places. For inclusive prices, the before-tax amount is rounded first and tax is the difference, so the breakdown always adds up.
What is Sales Tax / GST?
Sales Tax or GST is generally a percentage applied to the price of taxable goods or services, depending on the rules of the country or jurisdiction. This calculator performs the arithmetic for one percentage-based tax. It does not decide whether a transaction is taxable or which rate legally applies.
Businesses in Pakistan can use it by entering the percentage applicable to their transaction, just as businesses elsewhere can. Currency selection changes the display only. It does not choose a tax rate, determine provincial service tax or withholding tax, or apply exemptions. Treatment can depend on the goods or services, jurisdiction, legislation and taxpayer status.
How to Add Sales Tax to a Price
Use Add Tax when your starting price does not yet include tax.
Tax Amount = Amount Before Tax × (Tax Rate ÷ 100)
Total Including Tax = Amount Before Tax + Tax Amount
For an example price of Rs. 10,000 and an entered rate of 18%:
Rs. 10,000 × 18 ÷ 100 = Rs. 1,800
Rs. 10,000 + Rs. 1,800 = Rs. 11,800
The before-tax price is Rs. 10,000, the tax is Rs. 1,800 and the total is Rs. 11,800. The rate here illustrates the calculation; it does not establish which rate you should charge.
How to Calculate Tax from a Tax-Inclusive Price
Choose Extract Tax when your amount already includes tax. First divide the total by one plus the rate as a decimal. Then subtract that before-tax amount from the original total.
Amount Before Tax = Amount Including Tax ÷ (1 + Tax Rate ÷ 100)
Tax Amount = Amount Including Tax − Amount Before Tax
Using a total of Rs. 11,800 that includes an entered rate of 18%:
Rs. 11,800 ÷ 1.18 = Rs. 10,000
Rs. 11,800 − Rs. 10,000 = Rs. 1,800
The included tax is Rs. 1,800. Taking 18% directly from Rs. 11,800 would give Rs. 2,124, which is not the included tax: the 18% was originally applied to the smaller before-tax amount.

| Rs. 1,000 | 20% | Rs. 200 | Rs. 1,200 |
Tax-Inclusive vs Tax-Exclusive Price
Tax-Exclusive Price
Tax has not yet been added. For example, Rs. 10,000 plus an entered 18% tax produces a total of Rs. 11,800. Use Add Tax.
Tax-Inclusive Price
The displayed amount already contains tax. For example, Rs. 11,800 including an entered 18% tax contains Rs. 10,000 before tax and Rs. 1,800 tax. Use Extract Tax to separate those amounts without adding tax again.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate Sales Tax?
Multiply the before-tax price by your applicable percentage divided by 100. At an example rate of 5%, tax on Rs. 1,000 is Rs. 50.
How do I add 18% tax to a price?
Multiply the price by 0.18 to find the tax, then add it to the price. Rs. 10,000 plus Rs. 1,800 gives Rs. 11,800.
How do I calculate tax from a tax-inclusive total?
Divide the total by (1 + tax rate ÷ 100) to get the before-tax price. Subtract that price from the total to find the tax included.
Why can't I simply subtract 18% from a price that includes 18% tax?
The original tax was based on the before-tax price. For Rs. 11,800 including 18%, divide by 1.18 to get Rs. 10,000. Subtracting 18% of Rs. 11,800 would incorrectly leave Rs. 9,676.
What is the difference between tax-inclusive and tax-exclusive prices?
An inclusive price already contains tax. An exclusive price is the starting amount before tax is added. Choose the mode that matches the amount you have.
Can I enter my own Sales Tax or GST rate?
Yes. Replace the example rate with your applicable percentage, including decimals such as 7.5%, 12.5% or 17.5%. Quick-rate buttons are optional shortcuts.
Can I use this calculator for GST or VAT?
It can calculate a single percentage-based tax. You are responsible for selecting the rate and treatment applicable to your jurisdiction; it does not model exemptions, multiple taxes or special tax rules.
Does this calculator determine which tax rate I should charge?
No. It calculates using the percentage you enter and does not provide tax or legal advice. The default currency and 18% example rate do not establish a legal rate.
